s@lsa @ langkawi

as promised...

hehe, the trip to langkawi was... well worth every cent. i'm glad i made the risky decision considering i'm going there alone, with all the possible negative consequences, i.e. setting me back around rm 1000 in credit card debt, but again, it was well worth it.

it was aptly named, "s@lsa getaway". it was a hell of a getaway for me. getaway from all my worries and problems back here in KL, a trip to a land i've never (actually i have, but i can't really remember since i fell sick the whole time there when i was young) been before, with a culture i have never experienced before.

the trip wasn't really a typical "langkawi" trip, because there was only 1 trip to a beach, and even then we didn't even go into the water. it looked pretty murky and nobody had any "appetite" to go into the water. we didn't go to any islands, we stayed in the main island, particularly in our own resort. However lacking in beach activities, it was well compensated with its night events and dance workshops. I missed an important one, sad to say :( but it was okay.. I had a hella time there, in short.

Okay, main events there would be meals (breakfast, lunches and dinners :p), dance workshops, beach activities (only 1 day for about 3 hours) and finally the most important, night parties. It's kind of a buffet-like party, with food, lots of music, lots of dances and lots of beautifully dressed women. (and guys i suppose, but i'm not into men so i didn't really notice ;). sorry girls) there is booze but i can't help but wonder why these group of people don't really drink much unlike the group back in the university. hmm. this is new but i'm really glad i don't need to spend half of the time acting like a fool and dealing with hangovers the next day. the maximum i had was 4 glasses of wine, no slurring, no hangovers the next day. whew.

there was a band from colombia, and they were really, i repeat, *REALLY* cool. nice latino music, but pretty much inclined towards s@lsa kind of music. once in a while there's merengue and cha cha but that's about it. disco-like music comes towards the end of the party, which is about 2am to 4am. too bad i wasn't on the dance floor most of the time, as those who were, were damn good in s@lsa. i definitely will look like a kindergarten kid back there. urgh. anyway, i did go down there, probably did me good since i'm quite okay with my steps now ^_^. oh, did i mention that this colombian group was brought by this s@lsa group all the way from KL to perform in langkawi? damn cool, eh?

everybody there was friendly, and it was really fun hanging out with them. i expected it to be quite a boring trip, but it blew me. apart, literally. hehe. it was nowhere near boring. it's just a little too bad that they gave me a little too much attention, once in a while asking "are u alright?". helloooo, i'm alrite of course. i just don't feel like joining the groups and seeking attention. i don't need attention. i understand though, they're just trying to be nice to me :). i just don't want to be nosy and stuff, trying to sit with a group uninvited. i know they will welcome me, but i just don't feel right joining in and making people restrict their topics just because they have to accommodate or entertain me. i don't really like to trouble people that way. now don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean i'm being all the way anti-social throughout the trip. just once in a while, hehe. and i'm totally cool about spending the time by myself. it's a getaway, right? i don't mind enjoying the whole environment by myself, getting away from all the superficiality.

it was really a total different experience for me, as i had to mix with people i barely knew, totally different age groups at that. a very good experience for me, and it taught me a lot. one thing i learned is that somehow i am still emotionally-dependent on others. damn. i thought i had gotten rid of this weakness but as it prevails, i fear somehow it is still rooted in me. well, i will have to do something about this. '__' i shouldn't need to depend on other people's acceptance to feel worthy about myself.

ooh, i really have to share this. on the last night there, there was koreans there too. they were invited by the s@lsa group and wow, this korean guy who's a pro, is really good. i literally drooled when he was doing his s@lsa dance sequence, apparently mixed with hip hop. i can't put it in words, but it was wayyyyyyyyy COOL. i don't think i'd ever be able to do all that.. WAYYY COOL! he said his name is mr. kim, but don't u think everybody in korea seemed to be mr. kim? ;) and this girl who's his partner, in the midst of the dance sequence, did a near sommersault and landed with literally no sound! can u believe that? no sound at all! pro, real pro.

langkawi is really a duty free island. i got myself 2 bottles of whiskey, a jw black label and a chivas. and it only cost me like RM 130. way cheap. should've gotten more but each person is only entitied 1 bottle (1 litre). i got someone else to bring the other one for me.

the ride back was pretty fun, but quite tiring. was on the road since noon, and only reach back in KL at 11pm. throughout the journey there was hot music and girls doing dirty dancing along the aisle. what do the guys do? of course, they watch ;) one lady said that it was lucky for me not to bring my gf, as she will either have me thrown out of the bus or cover my eyes. hehe. and there was this thai girl on the bus, who had a bit of problem with her english. there was this one time she wanted to say "god bless me" and she ended up saying "god breast me". u can imagine what happened next, the whole bus goes mad. lol.

oh, and i learnt another lesson. girls who do dirty dancing (really *dirty* dancing) aren't really those who are sex-starved. they can be really decent. guys who thought they are easy targets for one night stands are definitely way off the scale. there was this time when this instructor of mine was invited by a mat salleh to dance with him. she tried to politely say no, but he insisted. she looked at me, rolled her eyes and went on to dance with him. after the dance she disappeared from his view altogether. there's another time when another guy said to her "hi beautiful" (i overheard this one, unintentionally) and some other things after that so i thought he knew her and i continued what i was doing (drinking wine and looking at the dance floor). after that she came and sat next to me, and asked me to act as if i'm her boyfriend. according to her, this guy is drunk. probably the guy saw her did the dirty dancing with me in the "dirty dancing competition". it was really, err.. well, suggestive. anyway, she might pass off as some sleazy girls who do dirty dancing, but trust me, she's decent.

a lesson well learned.
