paranoia

a few days back i was in mid valley and there was this American Express promotion where if you spend at least rm200 there, you'd get to spin the wheel and win some great prizes. damn, i sound like a promoter now :p

anyways, naivety on my part made the situation to conclude with me giving ALL my personal details to the credit card salesman there, INCLUDING my credit card number, expiry date *AND* my credit limit which is pretty high.

fast forward to several days later and i was deep in the well of paranoia. "what if he take my details and apply for car loan?" (read about these kind of fraud in malay mail i think. that's what happens if u read too much tabloids) "what if he use my identity to commit fraud?" and this was the one that broke everything : "what if he use my credit card details to purchase something?!?"

all in all, i considered, and reconsidered the troublesome-ness (if there is such a word) that i will face in :

a) blocking my current credit card, and get a new one. then contact all the companies that uses direct debit to my credit card (insurance, mobile phone, gym, etc etc..) and ask them to change to a new number

- or -

b) just wait & see and face the possibility of one day being charged for something i didn't purchase, which might cost > 10k and gotta go to police station make a report, go to my credit card provider and make a report and complaint, all the paperwork and blah blah yadda yadda

i end up calling up the credit card company and asking them for a new card, which i got in an hour.

an hour!

talk about speedy service ;)
