one of my negotiation principles is :
"the less attached you are to whatever you want, the better stand you have in negotating for it."
i suspect i'm being attacked using this principle by the company that i'm undergoing interview currently, since i gotta read up on their product and strategy, and present it to their clients even before i'm officially hired (spending more of my time with them makes me more attached). the CEO himself said "as far as i'm concerned, u are already one of us.. the things left will just be your salary package...". now, effectively, what he's saying only makes me more attached to the company as i would have the mindset that i'm already one of them, and since that fact is well established in my mind, i won't let it go and will give it a consideration no matter how low they offer me. and i can't refuse to do all that, since my hiring depends on whether they get that client or not. so i have to help them in getting the sale, which will therefore result in me being hired.
this is tough negotation. this guy is good. i'll just have to do better.
