the journey 1

it's funny how we can be so artificial but never realize it. years ago when i first started the journey towards knowing myself better, the first thing i learned was that in order for me to understand other people, i have to first understand myself.

"first, understand yourself". so seemingly easy, yet so difficult. one of the paradoxes of the universe, you might say. it seemed easy at first, there were so many times that i thought i understood myself, only to discover that i truly didn't understand myself. before i start, let me just brief u guys on how i first step into this whole new notion of consciously understanding myself.

when i was very young, i find it difficult to understand people, their motives, their intention, things like that. and that's probably why i didn't bother to understand them, and when my ex-schoolmates reminiscently discuss about what happened during schooltime during our teh tarik session these days (i.e. who's going after who, etc etc), i can't remember any of those happening. hmm, ignorance isn't really such a bliss then, huh?.. although i didn't bother to try to understand them, deep down i wished i understood them better, probably so that i can be accepted into their small circle of friendship. probably this longing for acceptance got me started to be so interested in psychology, in social behavioural studies, in trying to understand others, in trying to understand how people think, in how to unlock the powers and mysteries of our brain, in what dreams actually mean, in subliminal messages etc that i devoured whatever texts that i could find on those subjects.

until i stumble upon a piece of text that reads "before you can understand others, you have to first understand yourself." and that marks my first ever journey into understanding myself, how i think, how i react, how i respond to stimulations, my emotions and most importantly...

... who i am.
