Balls o' Fire Olive baboons in eastern Africa have something extra to worry about: a nasty new venereal disease that attacks the primates' reproductive organs. The mysterious disease is especially unkind to male baboons, said Elibariki Mtui, of Tanzania's African Wildlife Foundation. "The genitals kind of rot away, then they just drop off," he said. Officials fear an epidemic could be in the offing, since male baboons tend to be promiscuous, sleeping around with various troops, or extended families, of the simians. But Tanzania's human inhabitants may not care about the animals' affliction: They consider the baboons food-stealing pests.
