fraser's hill - the journey

ah.. fraser's hill. the mere mention of the name reminds me of the tranquility, the mist (not haze, mind you), the cooling air....

can't wait to go there again. the trip there was fun, and the ride up was as exciting as the whole event. no, maybe more exciting.. we exited KL around 5.30pm (read: too late) and got to Kuala Kubu Bahru around 7pm. and all the way during the journey, we were discussing about this mythical "the gap" that exists between fraser's hill and the end of the two-way road. now, it's mythical coz none of us (there was 4 of us) in the car could confirm on whether it's there, or it's just a myth. according to the "myth", the gap is around 10 to 12kms long, and it's one-way (only 1 car can fit through it). and there's a rule where the traffic is only allowed on one direction at a certain hour, i.e. 5pm to 6pm, up, 6pm to 7pm, down, 7pm to 8pm, up.. etc..

and because we were advised to reach there before 7.30pm, we tried to rush. as the day got darker, the journey got slower since the roads were really bending and there were lorries! we honked every time there was a blind corner.

and true enough, the gap exists! we reach the place at 7.38pm, and one glance at the sign board says 7pm - 7.40pm : UP. another look at the clock says "7.39pm". we were like, shit... and rushed through the entrace, albeit being silly about the entire thing, as we didn't read the board carefully. why? coz halfway through the journey, we were wondering.. "is there any car going down now ?".. a friend of mine say "we better be really careful, coz after 7.40pm cars will be coming down". i said "well, there won't be any cars, coz if they put 7pm till 7.40pm, they would've ensured that there is a gap of time where no cars can go up and down to make sure that the cars that enter just *before* that limit are able to finish their journey. so, logically, it probably would've been 7-7.40pm uphill, and 8-8.40pm for the next round of vehicles going downhill. so, we got 20 minutes".

of course, because we rushed into the entrance and didn't take a good look at the signboard properly, we couldn't properly determine who was correct. well, i confidently held on to my theory, and they believed me.. until about 3kms (7.50pm) before fraser's hill, as that's when we first met a car coming down. shit. luckily we managed to notice the car early (because of its head lights), slow the car down and stop, and let the car pass. we met two more cars at 7.55pm and when we reached the end, there was another board.

i got out of the car and got a closer look at the sign board. and this is what it said :

bla bla bla (some other times, not relevant)
6 - 6.40pm DOWNHILL
7 - 7.40pm UPHILL
8 - 6.40am unguarded (read: at own risk)

*phew* i was correct after all. the three cars are bloody idiots who didn't wait till 8pm. bitches. they could've gotten themselves (and probably us) killed. oh well, it was thrilling alright.. and.. i'm ashamed to say, the suspense was quite fun too, hehe. still, innocence/ignorance is bliss because if we were slower in the beginning, we wouldn't have reached before 8pm, and God knows how many cars wouldn've gone down the gap by then. but of course, we took precautions (*honk*honk*). :)

oh, time to do my laundry, that means i'll continue writing about fraser's the next time!

till then, adios~

p.s. malcolm in the middle and everybody loves raymond is a must-see on tuesdays!
