choosing your books

it's been ages since i last read.. any books.

so as the days pass by, inch-by-inch closer to the book swapping event, the anticipation builds up slowly. however, an unfortunate loss to the blogging community has caused the event to be suspended.

as a sidenote, i would like to express my condolences to joe's family and friends. he is a good man, and according to a friend of mine, a very talented person. it is a great loss not only to the blogging community, but also to the IT industry. rest in peace, joe. i will miss reading your thoughts, opinions and exposés.

ok, since the event was cancelled, and i was at klcc on the same day, the anticipation build-up was too great that i find myself in kinokuniya, purchasing 4 books. urgh...

and i noticed that i am a very picky reader. every single book i picked up, i will wonder, "will this book benefit me? or will it just be a simple read and i will totally forget about it? am i going to learn something from it?" yes, even the fiction ones.

now, this isn't entirely a bad thing, but i realize that it is quite selfish of me to pick books like that. can't a book be entertaining by itself with its wit and humour? must it be beneficial to you only then it's worth reading?

but again, i don't exactly have a lot of spare time, and when i read, i read things with a pinch of salt, that is not to believe everything i read. it can be scary how some things are just made up, and even scarier how a lot of people (including me.. as i used to be) just read and take it for granted that what you read equals (=) truth and don't bother checking up on the facts.

and that is the reason why i carefully choose the materials i read, books that has been proven to be good etc etc..

do you guys do the same?
