queerish scare

ok let's get this straight. (haha, wow, this sentence is almost perfect to start this article with. read on and u'll know :p)

queer = gay. (in a wider context, its meaning could be broader)

not the happy gay, but gay gay. u know what i mean.

and yes, i'm a little homophobic. ok. maybe not just a little. ah, let's continue with the story, shall we? u guys need something to keep you awake on monday, rite? yay, thursday is coming. yay, new year is coming. yay new year's eve is coming. but where is the story that will keep me awake on monday? well, here it is.

ok, let's see. as with all things in life, "you get some, you lose some". it applies to nearly everything, and of course having a wide network of friends and/or acquantainces doesn't escape this old adage. even before joining the dancing community, i would consider myself as having quite a lot of friends, to put it simply. but with this dancing community thingy, my network suddenly got bloated. yup, bloated like a sponge dropped into water. so many ppl. i'm not exactly quite used to it, as i'm quite a shy person. (although a lot of people will say otherwise, but hey i'm confused myself. am i an introvert or an extrovert? i seem to be extrovert, but i feel a little bit introvert. however when i'm a little bit high (from alcohol) i'm very very chatty. and people say when u're high/drunk your actual personality shows. but i digress..)

having a lot of friends/acquaintances is a good thing, generally. but of course, let's go back to the "you get some, you lose some" phrase. with good things, comes bad things in a trickle. if you're naive, you probably won't realize it, but if you're streetsmart like me, you approach things with great caution. even if it's a good thing. yes.

ok. now what could possibly be bad with having a lot of friends/acquaintances, and being able to meet new friends everyday? well, for one, you meet a lot of new different people every day, and frankly, not everyone is nice, not everyone has not have a secret agenda, not everyone is sane, not everyone smells exactly good, and back to the topic, not everyone is straight.

one night, while i was dancing away, this guy approached me and said i'm a good dancer (which of course, he missed the mark by not just a mile, but a few hundred miles coz i dance terribly. *alert 1*). i said i still have a lot to learn. he said yeah everybody has a lot to learn, but you're missing something. he proceeded to give me some tips which, out of respect, i followed a little bit, coz it seemed like a decent advice. and then he said he could give me a class or two, and gave me his number. he asked for mine but i said, i'll give u an sms and u'll have my number.

ok, maybe he is just being nice. a few valid (and good) instructors has offered to give me classes before, and i'm sure it's because they want another student. so it's not exactly a very strange situation. however, this guy is not an instructor, and i'm curious to see how he dances, coz if he dances well, i sure as hell want some tips :)

but since he's not an instructor, i'm a little bit suspicious. does this guy have another agenda? later in the night i noticed that he danced with some girls, quite closely, and he seemed to be enjoying the dance. and i don't think gheys actually enjoy dancing with ladies. so that's it, he's straight and he probably wants to earn a buck or two. but i didn't exactly like his style of dancing, so i forgot all about him...

... until about 3 weeks later when i came to the same dancing spot, and he was there. after i was done with my dancing, he signalled me to come over, and i did. he said, "hey, u're a good dancer (missed by a few miles again). but u're still missing something. and u know why u're missing something? because u're being taught by a local dancer, not from a true dancer". errm, i was quite offended by the remark because my instructor is a really good dancer, and a terrific instructor. however, i just kept quiet because i was having trouble trying to convince myself it's not worth sandwiching the guy with fists. and then he went on "i can give u classes, at my home (*alert 2*). it's very near a train station so it's easy for u to come. forget about the payment, i can teach u for free (*alert 3*)."

seemed like a nice person. free wor. he wanted to give me his phone number, and i said i already got it, and showed it to him. he said ok, and i went away.

and i got really alarmed. this guy was weird, wayyy weird. he was straight, isn't it? but why his home? crazy guy. i was thinking of suggesting having it at a club or something (like when i went to sg for a private class with an instructor) but then i decided to do my homework a little bit more.

during early morning (2am) supper with my friends, i overheard them talking about this guy. how he was manhandling the girls while dancing, hand on butt all the time during dancing. as a dancer, i never put my hand on a girl's butt when dancing. i think it's rude and it's invasive, but well that's my personal opinion. even though in certain kinds of music, the girls reduce their invisible circle of privacy to nearly zero (i dance certain dances with practically no space from chest to hips with certain girls), there is still some of that invisble circle of privacy left which we have to respect. yes, such as the butt. no hands on butt. and chest to chest is ok, but no hands. things like that.

anyways, that shows he's straight isn't it. not a very respectful guy, but nevertheless straight, isn't it? right?

right??

right???

wrong. i asked some more and a friend who knew him as a friend said he's a bi. and he's ir@nian, which means he's not a true blue s@lsa dancer anyway.

oh shit. that explains everything. if i had been naive enough to show up at his home, i don't know what he (or it could have been they) would do. shucks. i'm pissed off, in a way. if he approaches me again, the first few times i'll be respectful, but more will mean i'm going to glue his face temporarily with some fists.

it pays to always be cautious. and even if u cannot follow the old age "never talk to strangers" because u have to meet new ppl all the time, always remember that not everyone doesn't have a secret (and possibly malicious) agenda.

and yes ppl, it helps to be a cynic at times like this. :)
