s'pore decompiled and compiled, and decompiled and compiled again
basically, when u do that, u get rubbish, or really really short and incomprehensible summary. but well, here it goes.
personally, the s'pore trip was an excellent experience, nice workshop, nice dance scene, and above all, great company :). and of course that once in a blue moon spark-spark-*whoosh*-fire thingy. not that it really matters of course, since i'm not the kind of person who dares to touch the "long distance relationship" topic even with a 10-foot-long pole. yes, not even 20. ok, shuddup already, not 30 too.
alrite, personal experiences aside, the workshop is an.. errm, eye-opening (okay, more eyes like shoved open) experience. malaysia s@lsa standards is stil far far far far far far FAR below other more established countries. it seemed like everyday is a day to buck up. ho ho.
apparently i was the only m@laysian s@lsa dancer over at the workshop. i didn't heboh heboh the fact that i was going, so that i can surprise somebody there when i get there. that kinda *jump out*-peekaboo-guess-who's-here thingy. ploy failed. aih. really thought there would be at least one or two other m@laysians there. tarak.
anyways, most of the advanced dancers over at s'pore thought the workshop was quite a letdown. basically, one of the instructors lah. he kinda suck. he dances really really well, but when it comes to teaching, errm.. let's just say dancing and teaching skills don't always come together. period. wait. before i put the period, let's just add "putting before-class preparations aside" there. the preparation just wasn't good enough. the other instructor was better, although he only taught like 2 out of 7 classes for the package we're taking. (sshhh) it's up to the point where some of us changed our last class to a lower level class just to have a class with the better instructor. (/sshhh)
ok lah. just neutral opinions. my dancing is so-so, so i cant' say much. that's the general view point of the more advanced dancers there though.
as for my rant, there's only a few. one of them is that the workshop organizers specifically said "the organizers have the right to place you at the correct level if you're not suitable for the level". okay, there were "beginner", "intermediate" and "advanced". the funny thing was, an advanced dancer friend who tried to register for a single class in the advanced class was asked by the organizer: "are you an advanced dancer?" when she was obviously one, and at the same time, in the advanced class there were people who CLEARLY (crystal clear at that, diamond crystal doesn't get clearer than that) can't even fit into the intermediate classes. sigh. the worse thing was that there was this rotation thingy going on, basically, after trying out some moves with a partner, the instructor will shout "switch", and we're supposed to switch partners with the next person.
that's good for people who doesn't have a partner, but for ppl who has, that would be quite terrible, coz sometimes u just have to practise with people who can't even do a proper simple turn and yet insist on doing the double spin although i offered to torture her less by suggesting i can let her do a single spin rather than a double, since we're doing a series of moves combined, which is *really* difficult if even the first move is screwed. but she said no. oh well. towards the end of the classes, (to be exact, 4th out of the 5th partnerwork class), i asked my partner to come back and say "we're not gonna switch from now on". another couple fren of ours did the same. the instructor's eyes bulged a bit in disbelief (maybe i'm just being a bit too sensitive), but heck, for S$40 (around RM 86) per person per class, which makes it S$80 (RM 172) per couple per class, i think i have the right to insist practising with my OWN partner. after that, bliss.
walking out of the class, i whispered to my partner: "we're a little bit anti-social, hor".
