recently i read an article about these group of magicians which disapproved of a certain organization's plan to expose houdini's secrets.
i mean, they have all the right to do that, since it's their livelihood. but again this is not what i want to talk about.
the article also said something about one of houdini's first lessons was when this person who showed him how to control his throat muscles. more accurately, how to train to control his throat muscles. this is done by taking a small piece of peeled potato attached to a string, swallowed it and practised moving the potato up and down the throat by using the muscles until you don't need the string anymore. according to the article, this is the how the magician keep his keys - in his throat. well, people would check the mouth, but they won't check the throat, don't they?
now, this reminds me of a certain medium back in my hometown, who seemingly are able to cough out stones - seemed amazing at that point of time. he's supposed to be a medium that has 4 visiting "datuk"s - spirits that will possess him and advise people on spiritual matters.
now, after reading that article, i wonder whether the medium, who is respected by me and my friends, are actually a fraud, banking on his ability to control his throat muscles.
