ok boys and girls, today i'd like to share something nice with u. no need to cut queues, no need to push and shove other people around, there's enough for everybody.
in LRT, i was reading this book, that in turn was reading me.. (what am i saying?!)
the book has a poem, which sums up the wisdom of life (and career! so listen carefully), the wisdom that i found out after working for a while. well i haven't really had first hand experience of it for the life part, but yes for the career part it's every inch the true. it works both ways i guess.
so here it is.
"I bargained with Life for a penny,
And Life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store.
For Life is a just employer,
He gives you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.
I worked for a menial's hire,
Only to learn, dismayed,
That any way I had asked of Life,
Life would have willingly paid."
credits to the great poet who wrote this. this poem reminds me of the time some of my friends complaining to me about how low their pay are. i then asked them, "so, if you don't mind telling me, how much is your salary?". and they proceeded to tell me the number, which is well, quite low against market standards. so then i asked them, "so, this salary, was it you who asked for this, or did the employer bargained you down from a higher number?"
almost always the answer is that they asked for it themselves.
i mean, come on, if u asked for that amount of salary, why complain? if you don't like the number, [pepsi slogan comes here]!
