I AM SUCH A BORE

i am a boring person.

i lead a boring life.

ok, that aside, i got into the finals. the guy i bitched about in the last post backed out, dunno why. i watched a video of myself competing, and i looked spastic again. i don't look good when i smile, and i think i should just stop smiling and just fucking dance. i don't know why people keep asking me to smile. i don't look good smiling!!! i look like an idiot when i smile!!

CAN I JUST NOT SMILE WHEN COMPETING?!?!??

oh well, i guess i can't. but i digress.

there were 11 couples in the semifinals. 8 were chosen, which means 3 were eliminated. among the eliminated ones were people who learned together with me under the same school a year ago. the girl is my competition partner last year. it's a bit sad that they're eliminated, because they're good dancers, imho.

from what i heard, they weren't really prepared. i guess this could be a reason why they're eliminated. the lack of choreo, preparation and possibly couple chemistry. couple chemistry is a bit of a vague thing though - a couple can have really good chemistry on the dance floor while dancing, but under stressful environment the chemistry might not show, which is the case with mine. me and my partner, some people said we have great chemistry on the dance floor, but after this competition, one judge said that we lack chemistry.

the fact that this "judge" don't-know-why-don't-know-how-he-became-one is questionable aside, i guess the reason why there wasn't much chemistry displayed during the competition is probably.... my fault. under stressful environment, i just couldn't perform. which is why i shy away from performances. which is why i told people before that i wouldn't want to join a competition again.

the question is, how do i actually display chemistry? i've always thought chemistry is a "natural" thing, and it's not something that you can snap your fingers and whoosh it comes out. especially under a stressful environment, when all eyes are looking and you are, in other words, being evaluated. shouldn't chemistry be something that comes by its own, something that comes out when it's not needed? how can people tell me, "you guys lack chemistry, you should smile at your partner more, you should look at her more"? is it possible for chemistry to show up when i look at her and smile? that's it? is that all i have to do? should i tell myself to look at my partner and smile so that chemistry can ooze out and we can get marks for it?
