ghosts & chants

i know it's pretty late to talk about these things, but i kinda thought about this earlier, and i think i have to write it down.

see, everywhere you go, you hear people saying about ghosts, and how ghosts will not come near you if you chant a prayer.

now, the problem is, what if these ghosts are of a different religion? does the prayer of another religion scare them away?

and think of this; prayers like "namo-amitabh buddha" (na mo o mi to fo) or, om mani padme hum which are taoism/buddhism prayers. the problem is, pure buddhism is a teaching and not a religion, and AFAIK, pure taoism is a way of life, not a religion. so how does this scare the ghosts away?

hmm. om mani padme hum.
